smartBoard is a multi-functional educational toy module made of natural wood, which not only stimulates concentration, observation and creativity, but also promotes spatial awareness, hand-eye co-ordination and logical thinking, learning independence and problem-solving skills. The disassembled modular panels allow children to assemble their own practical objects for the home, allowing them to express their imagination and creativity. Children can also assemble sturdy furniture independently by using the slots on the 4 different shaped plates.
Concept Development
In order to achieve a versatile concept, various combinations of panels are used and possible scenarios are considered
Prototyping
I used wood to make a functional prototype for testing. I operated a wire saw to cut and hand sand the edges to simulate the manufacturing process of a real product
User Testing
I conducted tests with a number of users to explore possible combinations and functions in order to understand user behaviour
Parent-child interaction
The way the children find a way to balance the problem with their parents enhances parent-child bonding and is both physically and psychologically beneficial. The children create furniture that their parents can also use to achieve sustainability
